Uniform shirts for Grade 6
Band students and new band students:
All uniform shirts have been ordered for new band
students. Notes and emails have been sent home with information about
cost, etc. We will hand out shirts to students prior to our Winter Concert in
December. If your child didn’t get sized and needs a shirt, please have
them see us at full band or sectionals and we can add them to the order.
Our winter band concert this year will be held on December 6, 7:00pm, in the
Martin Auditorium. This concert will feature our elementary groups as
well as our high school concert band and choir. Students should arrive at
6:30 in uniform (red t-shirts, black pants/skirt, black shoes). We will
also be holding our annual bake sale in the front lobby. As in the past,
we would appreciate if families could bring one dozen of their favorite baking
(nut free). More information will be sent home as we approach the concert
Welcome to the 2016 - 2017 Martin Area Band Program. We are all excited to get the band year off to a great start with Grade 7/8 Full Band beginning on September 12 at Martin from 2 - 3 and The Grade 6 Head Start Clinic on September 19 at McLurg. Letters have been sent home but the links are below for the pdf versions.
With the end of the school year quickly approaching, we are both happy and sad. The last year has flown by and we have had some great experiences like the tours and Optimist Festival. The cycle continues as the Grade 8 students are now moving onto high school and a new group of Grade 6 students will begin in the fall. We are excited to see what the new year has to offer. If you still have not turned in your registration form for next year, please do so as we begin to plan for the next school year. If we do not see you before the summer, have a wonderful summer holidays and we will see you in the fall!!!
With the band year winding down soon, there are just a few reminders for everyone. The Spring Concert is at Martin Collegiate (1100 McIntyre Street) at 7 p.m. on May 31, 2016. Students should arrive at 6:30 in their uniform and ready to go. We will be holding our traditional bake sale at the concert so students can bring a dozen of their favourite treats. Remember no nuts please.
Registration forms for the upcoming year are now being handed out to all students. We would like the registration forms back by June 14th so we can start planning the groups for next year.
Thanks everyone and see you at the concert next Tuesday night!!!

This is a notice to let you know that Lindsay Stetner is
returning to the Martin Area Bands and we are sadly saying goodbye to Robin
Howell. Lindsay Stetner will take over Seven Stones sectionals, some Walker/McLurg
sectionals, and Grade 6 Full Band. Dylan Wiest and Vanessa Strykiwsky are
staying in their regular schedules.
Robin wants to thank all of the students she’s worked with
in the Martin Area Band this year. All of the students have been extremely kind
and hard-working and she will miss them very much. She looks forward to
attending the end-of-year concert and hearing all the progress they will make
in remaining months of the school year!
The Grade 6, 7/8, and High School bands will be performing at the Downtowner’s Optimist Band Festival at the Conexus Arts Centre in March. The purpose of this festival is to provide our students with the opportunity to play in a quality venue, have a clinic with a highly regarded adjudicator, and to work toward a successful performance as a band. They will perform two pieces for three adjudicators and an audience.Following their performance, our bands will also have a group photo taken, or, an individual/small group taken if you choose (picture order forms will be sent home closer to the date). Our students will leave by bus sometime during the morning and return before school is done for the day.
We are asking each band student to pay $7.00 to cover partial cost of the registration and transportation. For Walker & McLurg families, payment will be online for this event. For Seven Stones & Rosemont families, or anyone unable to pay online, please hand cash or a cheque made out to 'Regina Public Schools' in (labeled with your child’s name) to one of the band teachers no later than Friday, January 22 as registration for this event is due very soon.
We will send a note home closer to the festival with the exact day and time, a permission form, an itinerary of the day, and a picture order form.We will also need some chaperones, so look for that too!
Welcome back! We hope everyone had a wonderful break and found some time to relax and rejuvenate. Below are the sectional and full band schedules for January-May. Stay tuned for information on the Optimist Festival which happens in March.
